‘Redesdale Rites’
The Church of England in Elsdon, Otterburn, Horsley & Byrness

24 January 2016

  • The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity concludes tomorrow (Monday).  This evening  (Sunday 24th)  at 6pm at St Cuthbert's Church in Bellingham there will be an Ecumenical Service of Prayer followed by a shared supper to which all are welcome and invited to bring a contribution.

  • Congratulations to Dale and Emma Quincey, married at St John the Evangelist, on Saturday 23rd. We wish them every blessing in their married life.

  • In late 2015 the Tyndedale Community Bank (TCB) was formed to provide local borrowing and lending services for the people of Tynedale. TCB is looking for “Church Champions” to be a link between TCB and Church communities. If you would be interested in becoming a Church Champion, or would like more information about TCB, please contact Benjamin Carter on 01434 688 198 or revbenjamincarter@gmail.com.

Our Service next Sunday  (31st January)  is:
11.00 am - Group Service at St John’s Otterburn. We will be celebrating the festival of ‘Candlemas’ with a Family Communion. All welcome.
Candlemas commemorates the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of her son Jesus. This day also marks the ritual presentation of the baby Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem. It concludes the ‘Christmas Season’.
There is a traditional saying:
“If Candlemas Day be fair and bright, winter will have another fight.
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain, winter won't come again.”
We’ll see!
