A Time for Reflection

A Parish Quiet Day to help us begin Lent
At
Alnmouth Friary

Led by
Brother Joseph Emmanuel SSF
Saturday 4th March
10.00 am to 4.00 pm
Alnmouth Friary

There will be two main sessions.
The morning session will focus on how to use the gift of silence creatively and the afternoon session will introduce us to a time honoured way of reading the bible, known as ‘Lectio Divina’.   There will be an opportunity to share in Holy Communion with the brothers at midday and plenty of free time to enjoy the silence of the House or to walk in the beautiful coastal village of Alnmouth.
Coffee and tea are provided but we will need to take a packed lunch, or alternatively there are places to eat in the locality.

If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible as places are limited  (email redesdale.vicar@gmail.com or telephone 01830 520212)

There will a cost to help fund the work of the Friars and to cover the use of the facilities - suggested £10.00 per person - pay what you can as I don't want the cost to exclude anyone

Lent 2017
Let’s talk about The Psalms
Otterburn Vicarage
Monday evenings in Lent: 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm
The ancient poems we call Psalms are over 2000 years old. They were written in very different times from our own when humans could travel at the speed of a camel - not at the speed of sound. But these songs have stood the test of time for they address many of the problems we still face: violence, injustice, anger - and bewilderment. Why do the wicked prosper? Where is God when we suffer? In this 5-session course, Bishop Stephen Cottrell - a prolific and popular author - reflects on the psalms in general (and five psalms in particular). He invites us to join him as he does so.

Session 1  6th March   Know that the Lord is God. (Psalm 100)
Session 2 13th March Out of the depths have I cried  (Psalm 130)
Session 3 20th March How long, O Lord?  (Psalm 13)
Session 4 27th March You spread a table before me. (Psalm 23)
Session 5  3rd April Unless the Lord builds the house (Psalm 127)

The sessions will be based on a CD featuring a discussion by the Dominican Friar Fr Timothy Radcliffe, Revd John Bell of the Iona Community, the Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons Revd Prebendary Rose-Hudson Wilkin and Revd Dr Jane Leach, the Principal of Wesley House Cambridge.
